IGS 2019 Fall Conference, October 11 & 12, 2019
Susan M. Olson, Martha Schmidt, Pat Conklin and Cheri Hendrix attended this conference.
October 2019
October is Family History month. Each year, in the library front hall we have a display. This is the display for October 2019.
Our October meeting is Monday, October 7, 2019, at 1 pm, inside the Fort Dodge Public library.
Over the past few months, we have been sorting a donation received by the family of Judy Ort. She is a member that passed recently.
It is now “sorted”. I am looking through the items to see what needs to be scanned.
October 10, 11, and 12th I will be in Des Moines at the 2019 Fall conference for the Iowa State Genealogical Society. Along with being the President of the Webster County Genealogical Society, I am also the district rep for Region 12. I will be attending the conference and attending IGS meetings. This a picture of the conference last year of the speaker, Lisa Louise Cooke and members of the Webster County Genealogical Society.
Saturday, October 26, 2019, Carol Snyder Foltz, Cheri Hendrix and myself will be presenting classes at the Hamilton Heritage Hunters Genealogy Workshop.
Monday, September 9, 2019
Our regular meeting will be at 1:00 pm in the Fort Dodge Public Library. We will be setting up a scanning schedule. If you are interested in this project, please come to this meeting.

Norwegian genealogy
We have Linda Greethurst giving a program on Norwegian genealogy. She has give us two sites to help with research.
Another site is OJ’s homepage. https://otjoerge.wordpress.com/norwegian-american-dictionary.
The dictionary site helps when working on DigitalArkivet.no.
Many of the Digital Arkivet records have not been indexed, so you may have to browse records. You will need to register for a free account in order to use the site.
Norwegian counties are like states in the U.S.
There should be an official parish register and a copy of the official parish register that was kept at a separate location. Once or twice a year, the keeper of the copy and the minister were supposed to compare the versions, so there might be additions at the end of the book.
Linda Greethurst recommends “A Research Guide for Norwegian Genealogy” as a valuable resource for researching Norwegian family history. It is published by The Norwegian American Genealogical Center & Naeseth Library in Madison, Wisconsin. Their website is www.nagcnl.org.
