  1. I am the unofficial genealogist of the Rumme family that came to Fort Dodge in the 1880’s. My grandparents farmed, had a dairy, and owned several buildings in FD in the late 19th century. A cousin did considerable family research pre-internet days. Some quite accurate but other facts muddled. One roadblock I have encountered is determining my great grandmother, Rosine Anna Lehman’s lineage. I was recently contacted by Jeff Lehman who found we were cousins through a DNA test. We can find a possible Lehman ancestor (no first name) that was a possible cousin, sibling, or half sibling. Looking for any assistance. Anna was married to Karl Rumme, my great grandfather,. He emigrated from Prussia with Anna and several of his siblings. Karl was the only one who married and that was in Germany before they emigrated. I was hoping there might be some historical record that named Rosine’s parents. I left Fort Dodge in the mid 60’s and have no family left there. The last relative remaining was Robert Nordquist who died a few years ago, and whose wife Lealani passed recently. Any assistance would be helpful.

    • Dennis,
By coincidence, I just ran into this recent message & it sparked my curiosity. My name is Duane Lindner & I grew up in Fort Dodge & many members of my large extended family still live in the area. I have been exploring my lineage over the past few years. Along the way, I’ve logged information on various branches and individuals of family side extensions without exploring them in depth. As it turns out, I have both Rumme & Lehman connections (not in my main family lines). But one of those links apparently connects to “Rosanna Rumme” and her husband Karl (BTW she died in 1920 & there was a brief obituary in the Messenger of March 29 (page 7)–with no mention of her parents). Anyway, she and Karl apparently had two sons living at that time–Charles and Ernest. I believe Charles married Emilie Krueger and their son, Helmith married my great aunt Elfrieda Moench. They lived on Sixth street near Duncombe school & had three boys. I don’t remember any of the males in the family (I believe the boys had all left home before my memory kicks in in the late 1950’s), but do remember her as I sometime ran errands for her & fed her cat(s) when she was away. Aunt Elfrieda was my mother’s favorite relative the two of them frequently met to chat (we lived a couple blocks away). So my curiosity–are you descended from Helmith & Elfrieda?

      Best regards, Duane Lindner

    • I found her father’s name on her death cert. Gottlieb Lehmann. On FamilySearch.org, I found her mother’s name as Christine Wiggert. There wasn’t a source document listed. You need to go to the German websites and do further searching.
      Happy Hunting.
